Busy Day

It seems like life ramps up at times.

The days get fuller, busier, more hectic, something...

Today was unusually full. A good day, as it turned out, but full.

The Scoutmaster is gearing up to help lead a training weekend for Scout Leaders. He had a few things for me to do for him today.

  • Find his campaign hat
  • Pack his back pack for the weekend
  • Decorate his "hero" sign
  • Make police badges for a skit
  • Tie Turks Head Knot Woggles
  • Find the backpacking stove

Just small things, fun things, easy things.
I'm happy to help!

The trick is that I also have six hungry people here with me all day, making messes, needing direction, requiring the shaping of their character, needing to be educated, and loved, and protected, and trained, and bathed, and dressed, and changed, and redirected, and encouraged, and watched, and listened to. Rewind, repeat, rewind, repeat,
rewind, repeat.

You know, the usual.

Then, we had baseball practice and had to go directly from there to Awana. Groceries were desperately needed and there was a one-day sale too good to miss, so we ran to the store while D practiced baseball. Then drove through McDonald's
on the way to Awana.

And now,

We're home.

And the house is almost quiet.

A Wee Sprout needs to be snuggled and a mama needs to decompress.

God is kind and all is well.

Sunshine just came from her room to tell me that she is going to Shark Island. I have no idea what that means, but I sent her back to bed with a kiss and a smile. Surely, Shark Island can wait until tomorrow,
along with the laundry and the dishes and the sticky kitchen floor.

Edited to add: Okay, maybe not the laundry. I just started a load and I have to put the clean sheets back on my bed. But the sticky floor can SURELY wait!

Waffles

The response I got from the granola post was so encouraging that I'm going to toss another favorite, frequently used recipe out there.

Enjoy!

Southern Oregon Pancake and Waffle Mix

Combine:
8 C. Whole Wheat Flour
5 T Baking Powder
1 T Salt
2 C. Dry Milk Powder

I store this mix in an airtight container in the cupboard.

To make pancakes, combine:

1 C. Mix
1 C. Water
1 Egg
1 T. Oil

(Sometimes, I use a little less water or a little more mix to get a thicker batter, but this proportion is easy to remember and brain cells are a limited resource.)

To make waffles, combine:

1 C. Mix
1 C. Water
2 Eggs
2 T. Oil

In my crusty, old, heavily used, lopsided waffle baker, the surface of the waffle comes out looking a little mottled.
But the flip-side looks nice and golden brown, so I serve them with the pretty side up.

I double the batch to feed myself and the Ducklings. I also double the recipe when making the mix.

We eat waffles or pancakes at least twice a week, so we can go through a lot of mix.

This is cheap and easy.

That makes me very happy!

If you decide to give it a try, I'd love to hear about it.

GSP

I'm working on a couple of cooking posts.

Here's a sweet shot of my favorite photo subject while you're waiting!

How cute is that outfit that his Generous Grandmother gave him for his birthday?!

Sun-Kissed Baby

The Sprout was so happy to be outside much of the day!

He took a great nap this afternoon and now he's toddling around,
all sun-kissed and extra sweet.

Scrumptious!

Welcome!

If you're popping over from Owlhaven's Frugal Cooking Carnival,

Welcome!

It's great to have you. Make yourself at home!

Great Day

We had a fantastic day!

This morning we attended the first of D's baseball games. It was a practice tournament. Our team ended up playing two games, instead of the expected three, which was perfect.

The weather was absolutely amazing! It was the perfect temperature and sunny and
the wind did not blow.
That may not mean much to some of you, but if you've ever attended a baseball game in our town, you know that is a one in a million day.

Thank you, Lord!

We were there for about 3 1/2 hours and it flew by. The Ducklings played with their friends, old and new. D played brilliant baseball. He got on base every time he batted and hit a couple of triples! His play at first base was excellent, too. His team is shaping up to be quite good this season.

The best part for me was having a chance to catch up with a dear friend who has been out of town for a few weeks. She and I were able to chat and share snacks (granola, peanuts, gummy worms) and watch our boys play, while enjoying the sunshine.

All in all, it was an excellent day to be on the Southern Oregon Coast. We are all tired and happy and sun-kissed.

This is a picture of D in his uniform last year. I did not take one picture today! I can't believe how much he's grown. I'll have to post a picture taken in the same uniform in the same spot this year, for comparison.

We are so blessed!

Lazy Days

Sorry I've been a lazy blogger the last few days.
I'm battling this obnoxious cold that just keeps hanging on.
It makes me feel like curling up and taking a nap...
all. day. long.

Which, of course, is not an option.
So, I shift into low gear.
And feel rather uninspired.

Tonight is the first Boy Scout Overnighter
at the Scout Cabin.

Tomorrow is the first baseball game of the season.

And The Scoutmaster is helping with a community track meet.

And The Boy Scout has an end-of-year Awana party.

It promises to be a fun day.

And blog-worthy!

For now,

A GSP (Gratuitous Sprout Photo)

That's all I've got.

Oh! Did anybody see Survivor last night?
Will these people ever learn?
